Points to Ponder

For hives with 2 supers on-consider making one good full super from them
Prepare for September feeding if that is your normal usual practice
    Swarm management procedures
    Varroa checks
Getting ready for winter

Many beekeepers feed the bees in September as the weather in October may be inclement
Making one full super of stores from 2 partially filled ones often has positive benefits
Colonies should be across at least 5 or 6 frames to survive winter - consider combing weaker colonies together or with stronger ones
Close down entrances and add mouse guards
Wasps and hornets

The wasp traps and Asian hornet monitoring traps should now checked regularly
Monitor the activity at the front of the hive - this is where Asian hornets hover to catch bees on the wing
Check for Varroa
The check for varroa should be standard now at every inspection

    Treat as necessary

Check Hive Stands
Check the hive stands ready for the rigours of winter - replace or stengthen as required
Tie down as required and necessary
